As part of our ongoing commitments to sustainability and positive environmental impact, we are keen to expand our offering of nature-based activities for guests at Holiday Resort Unity. Our nature walks and events have been incredibly popular in the past, and we are thrilled to be re-introducing these activities back into our events calendar!
Our holiday resort covers over 200 acres of land and we host some incredible wildlife. We have participated in the David Bellamy Award scheme for over 25 years and achieved 8 consecutive Gold awards before the scheme transitioned to the David Bellamy Blooming Marvellous Pledge for Nature in 2021.
Over the last few years, we have worked on several pledges, including Tree-mendous and Pollinator Patch. We have transformed our resort into the perfect home for wildlife, planting hundreds of trees and spreading wildflower seed mixtures across our golf course to support our local ecosystem.
Over the past 12 months, we’ve been lucky to spot some incredible wildlife around the resort, from majestic birds of prey like red kites and sparrowhawks to fascinating wetland creatures like newts, dragonflies, and frogs. The diversity of wildlife we enjoy is one of the reasons why, for 2024, we’ve proudly committed to the ‘Everyone Active’ pledge. Our goal is to get as many people as possible engaged with nature, providing opportunities to learn about the environment and its protection. This pledge also allows us to showcase the natural beauty of the resort while encouraging families to take the knowledge and passion they gain here home with them to continue caring for wildlife in their own communities.
At the end of August, we hosted our sold-out Nature Day in collaboration with our long-standing partners, Secret World Wildlife Rescue and the Somerset Beekeepers Association. The day was filled with activities for all ages, including den-building, nature trails, bird watching, and outdoor puzzles, as well as fascinating talks from local wildlife experts. One of the day’s highlights was a challenge from the Somerset Beekeepers Association, where participants tried to spot the elusive Queen Bee among more than 20,000 honey bees in a specially designed viewing cabinet!
We wrapped up the day with a visit to our very own Sunshine Farm, where guests had the chance to meet and interact with our friendly farm animals, making it a truly memorable experience for both children and adults alike. The success of Nature Day reinforced our commitment to hosting more engaging and educational activities in the future, so we can continue to inspire a love for nature in all who visit.
We’re already looking forward to planning the next event and seeing even more families get involved!
